Bike Valet FAQ

What is Bike Valet?

Bike valet is a safe, secure, and free service that Bike Regina provides at many local, community events. When you drop off your bike with us, we will tag your bike and give you a claim ticket. When you are ready to go, simply give us back the ticket in exchange for you bike!

Is it really free?

Yes! Bike Regina is a non-profit organization and all we want is for more people to get out of their cars and on to their bikes. If you like our bike valet service and would like to see similar services at more community events, you are more than welcome to leave a donation, however they are never expected.

What happens if I lose my ticket?

By using our service, you agree that you will leave your bike under the constant supervision of our volunteers. In exchange, we agree that we will not give your bike away to anyone else other than you (or whoever has the matching ticket). While every case is different, in general, If you lose your ticket, we simply cannot give your bike back to you.

This has never been an issue in the past and we don’t expect it to become one in the future. We remind all of incoming cyclists to keep an eye on their ticket and protect it like it is cash or a credit card. Don’t lose it and you will have no issues!

What if I forget to pick up my bikes?

It is the owner’s responsibility to reclaim his/her bike. All bikes that are not picked up after the aforementioned end time of our bike valet service are left on-site unattended.

Why should I use Bike Valet? I can lock my bike to a signpost or bike rack nearby, can’t I?

You are always more than welcome to lock your bike up to any structure of your choosing! The benefit of leaving your bike with us is added safety and security. Our bike valet areas are fenced off and under constant supervision by multiple volunteers. By leaving your bike with us you won’t have to worry about any unwanted attention your bike may get if you locked it up in an unsecure location.

Also, leaving your bike with us creates more visibility for cyclist and cycling in Regina. Using our service is a vote for active and sustainable transportation. There is strength in numbers, and the more bikes we valet, the more we can show that cycling is viable as a mode of transportation and a chosen method of travel by many Reginans.

Why are you doing this?

Sometimes, bike racks and other sturdy structures simply aren’t available where your destination is. We believe that by providing bike parking that is secure and convenient,  cycling can be made more attractive, and more people will choose to ride their bikes instead of driving their cars.

Is Bike Valet a new idea?

While bike valets are relatively new to Regina, it is not a new idea in other communities. Bike valets have been a successful and helpful addition to many cities across the country, including Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, and Toronto, amongst others.

Saskatoon Cycles has been providing bike valets for [many] years now and have been a wild success in their cycling community. One of their premier events — the annual Saskatchewan Jazz Festival — sees upwards of 1300 bikes! Bike Winnipeg provides bike valet services at all home Winnipeg Bluebomber games, where they have valeted more than 1000 bikes each game!
